- Coldest swim of the year: a dip in a glacial lake whilst on tour in Norway.

The Crooked Fiddle Band are about to embark on the epic quest of recording our second full-length album, and we need your help to do so. By pre-ordering our new album (and/or any of the other goodies on offer) you will help us fund the new recording without the credit card debt – and guarantee yourself a copy of our new album.

We will return to Electrical Audio studios in Chicago in mid-January 2013 to record with the legendary Steve Albini (The Dirty Three, Nirvana, GY!BE, PJ Harvey and Joanna Newsom). Pre-ordered copies of the album will be available by April 2013.

It’s Remix time – stems now available for download

We have uploaded the seperate stems for some tracks from Overgrown Tales to Soundcloud – remix them, mash them, smash them up, and show us the results!

All tracks were recorded by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio, Chicago.
As the album was recorded live to 16 track tape there is some spill in the violin, bass and guitar/bouzouki lines – you can get drier (but nastier) tones for guitar/bouzouki and bass from the amp lines. If your work requires any of the seperate drum mics, let us know and we’ll bounce it for you.

All usage must be not-for-profit – if you want to commercially release, get in touch and we’ll work something out!

2012 European Tour

The Crooked Fiddle Band have left our island home to bring our brand of cinematic ethnopunk to Europe – we are returning to Germany and the UK, as well as visiting Sweden, Norway, Finland and Belgium for the first time.

We are bringing with us our debut album Overgrown Tales, recorded by Steve Albini in his Chicago studios, and will be playing plenty of high-energy tunes and darkly ecstatic sounds for writhing dancefloors, festival stages and concert venues.

We’d love to see you there!

2012 rolls on…

Well, the doomsday soothsayers name it the year to end all years, so to be on the safe side here at tcfb HQ we’ve been busy on many fronts, preparing. We’ve been writing new tunes (with working titles such as “The Twin Peaks of Kilimanjaro”, “Shanti and the Singing Fish” and “Grino Dino – Japcore version”), we’re back on the road Feb-April playing from Adelaide to Newcastle and we just pressed a limited 12″vinyl release of Overgrown Tales.

Not to mention Gordon and Mark, who’ve been busy tinkering with a secret genre they’ll only refer to as ‘Pharaoh Punk’….

Bookings are underway for our 2012 european tour, too, so we can’t wait to return to the handcrafted UK festivals, the German autobahn, and take in our first Scandinavian visit!

Film Clip – Countess Bathory’s Finishing School for Girls

We are proud to present a peek behind the crooked scenes – on set at the making of the Overgrown Tales album artwork, accompanied by our first single “Countess Bathory’s Finishing School for Girls”. It was a fun, 4 day process spent in a basement, making infuriating minature trees and rocks, moulding model limbs, eating chips and involving a plethora of paint.

Directed and compiled by Jack McGrath, featuring Dave Carr (of Dave Carr’s Fabulous Contraption) as the Mountain Man, photographer Yanni Kronenberg and make-up artist Amanda McKenzie. Footage and time lapse by Jack McGrath and Greg LeCoutier, album cover stills photographed by Yanni Kronenberg.

The Crooked Fiddle Band on Underbelly Razor: Episode 1 ‘The Worst Woman in Sydney’

If you were watching ‘The Worst Woman in Sydney’, the first episode of Underbelly Razor last night, you may have heard The Milkman from our Rise EP during the fight scene introducing the nasty sounding George ‘The Midnight Raper’ Wallace. We would like to point out that he is no relation to our very own guitarist Gordon Wallace, who is sometimes known as ‘The Midnight Rapper‘. Totally different people, they don’t even look the same.

The episode also featured the fantastic Mojo Juju and the Snake Oil Merchants as well as other Australian bands, a good thing to hear – rally round the drum boys, rally round the drum!
